Last week I was the recipient of a very nice gift. You see I visit Granny Sue's a lot. It just so happened I joined in the fun of her chicken riddles contest. To my surprise I ended up the winner. As such, Susanna sent me a copy of her CD 'Mountain Story, Mountain Song'.
That same evening after dinner Coop and I shared an hour being spellbound by Susanna Holstein's voice in story and lyric as she wove her tales and sang her songs. Granny Sue knows how to tell a tale as a tale should be told. We enjoyed the stories and songs immensely. My favorite story was the tale of "Gracie's Cabin". Days later I found myself humming the tune that accompanied that story, picturing Gracie stirring her kettle of herbs and potions over the fire.
For me there was also something reminiscent in the way Granny Sue tells a story. It took me back to my childhood days when on occasion my dad would gather us round and tell ghost stories. Thanks for the CD Granny Sue and for the memories as well.

An afterthought here...Granny Sue's CD would make a really great gift this holiday season!
Thanks for letting me borrow the Granny Sue CD!!! I love her stories and she has such a way of telling them. To me story telling is a form of art and expression, history and myth all combined together. I simply love it!

ReplyDeleteI am at work on a new CD that will be all West Virginia ghost stories and ballads. I think it's going to be very good. I'll let you know when it's done. Might have to have another contest!
Congratulations on winning Granny Sue's Cd. I was just over at her place and she mentioned you so I thought I would stop in for a visit. Being a new comer to your site I thought it polite to stop and say howdy and congratulations. I am enjoying my stay and will be back to visit again.
